Golf Course Restoration

We have a mission at Sara Bay…to be one of the finest Donald Ross golf courses in the United States.

Our recent restorations, and Master Plan for the course, are guided by that goal. Under the guidance of noted golf course architect, Kris Spence https://krisspence.com/  we are reviving Donald Ross’s intent for the course.

The principles guiding our restoration are evident in Mr. Ross’s books about his design philosophy:

• Give players options to play the hole
• Provide a way to play the hole for both better players and players of lesser ability
• Ensure a diversity and variety of challenges on the greens
• Present fairways that zig-zag, rather than appear to be straight.
• Create a mental test and an eye test that makes players think

During the summer of 2023, we will re-grass the fairways, tees, and approach areas with Bimini Bermuda sprigs. This grass provides a dense surface for better lies, deep color, and increased drought resistance. Our Superintendent has tested this grass on the course over the last two years with excellent results.
